10-03-10 Steeton Goods Vehicle Test Station Closes
Steeton Goods Vehicle Test Station (GVTS) will close on the 12 March following a wind down period (staged approach). In December 2009, The Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) confirmed that Steeton GVTS would close by the 31 March, 2010.
Bookings ceased on 26 February, 2010 but the station remained operational for a further 2 weeks to cater for vehicle re-tests carried out at the site between 1 March and up to/and including 12 March, 2010.
Steeton is the last test station to close as part of VOSA’s plan to tackle over-capacity within our estate. 10 test lanes have been decommissioned and three other testing stations have been closed as part of this plan.
In January 2009, VOSA announced that the station would close on 8 May however this was delayed to allow the local community to make alternative arrangements for testing at VOSA’s sites at Leeds or Walton. Designated Premises are also expected to open in the area soon.
The Driving Standards Agency will expand its driver-testing facilities at the site.
