02-02-09 Proposed amendment to VOSA's Voluntary Test Fees

VOSA (The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) has today published a consultation on proposed changes to its voluntary test fees for testing and inspecting Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

The voluntary test initiative gives operators the chance to have their vehicles checked for faults which - if left uncorrected - may lead to them failing the annual vehicle test. Annual test failure can result in extra costs to the operator and could increase their Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS). There are no penalties for failing voluntary checks and they allow operators to ensure that vehicles are safe for drivers and other road users.

VOSA intends to continue to offer this service to customers through our network of testing stations and also at Designated Premises (DPs) and Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs) when requested by the DP or ATF operator.

VOSA is asking stakeholders for their views on the changes, which are due to be implemented in May 2009. The consultation will run from today until 27th April 2009 and is available here: http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/open/vosavoluntarytestfees
