19-09-06 British Traffic Examiners Best Trained In Europe
VOSA hosted the 15th European Exchange week in West Yorkshire earlier this month, with Euro Controle Route, a body responsible for harmonising checking practises across the continent, announcing that British Traffic Examiners lead the way in several key fields. VOSA welcomed 12 Traffic Examiners from Austria, Belgium, France, Netherlands and Luxembourg in order to review the implementation of Digital Tachographs within the UK and to compare the progress made with that of other member states.
The delegates were presented with a mixed programme of classroom presentations and site visits, to Leeds test station, a roadcheck at Boston Spa and an operator’s premises. This culminated in group presentations by the European Traffic Examiners to an audience of European Delegates, with an emphasis on training, enforcement and compliance.
As the week progressed it became apparent that UK examiners were amongst the best prepared with regard to training, use of downloading equipment and analysing data.
Goedele Van Kerschaever, the Coordinator of Euro Controle Route, said: “We quickly realised that all participating countries are at a very different stage of implementation. For example, the United Kingdom, France and Austria are among the leaders in having introduced new technical reading equipment. We found that British examiners are the best trained inspectors with regards to regulations, new hardware and software.”
