Access to Testing

VOSA’s commitment

VOSA remains committed to providing customers with access to testing within a reasonable time and distance. The introduction of Authorised Testing Facilities (ATFs) does not alter this commitment.

Future of VOSA operated testing stations

Our aim is to eventually deliver the majority of tests through ATFs, however, VOSA recognises that it may be necessary to retain VOSA sites in areas where there are few or no ATFs. This will become clearer once the market appetite for ATFs has been established.

Station Closures

VOSA has committed to review the potential ATF market in all 68 of our full-time test station areas and has completed 20 area plans in 2010/2011.

Based on the results of the market validation work VOSA has recently announced the closure of some of its test stations. Birmingham and Mitcham test stations will close by July 2011 and Bishopbriggs, Gloucester and Liverpool stations will cease testing by November/December 2011. Our review of these sites has found that there is likely to be sufficient market for ATFs in these areas. The notice period is to give sufficient time for ATFs to meet the required standards, achieve authorisation and then go live. More sites will be going through the market validation exercise in the 2011/12 financial year.
