Approval of a complete vehicle is dependent on each of the various systems and individual components specified within the Framework Directive being approved to the appropriate EC standard or UN Regulation. There are certain items that will need to be approved as an individual component or a Separate Technical Unit (STU), as well as being approved as part of an overall system, in order to meet the requirements of the appropriate European Whole Vehicle Type Approval Framework Directive.
In addition to the requirements for Whole Vehicle Type Approval, a number of standards also apply to after market products as well as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. Examples of these include Tyres, Glass, Exhaust systems and replacement brake linings to name a few.
