Previous research

The DfT commissioned two research reports in response to the recommendations made by the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee in 2002.

The first report was commissioned to help determine whether or not the Scheme should be extended to people with Autism, Alzheimer’s, Crohn’s and colitis, mental health problems, learning disabilities and partially sighted people. The findings are presented below.

The second report was commissioned to help determine the feasibility of establishing a national database of Blue Badge holders, in order to help tackle abuse of the Scheme. The findings are presented below.

Both research reports were considered as part of the 2007 Independent strategic review of the Scheme and have been incorporated into the review findings and DfT response.
