MR03 - Ticketing, real-time information and willingness to pay (UG432E)

This involved qualitative research to determine the types of factors or issues that would influence the demand for key components to Transport Direct in addition to the journey-planning facility - namely ticket purchase, booking facilities and real time information. A further objective of the project was to assess the extent to which people would be prepared to pay for Transport Direct.

'PlusBus' integrated ticketing (UG506)

Train and bus companies have been working jointly (under an umbrella organisation called Journey Solutions) to create joined-up ticketing between the modes. The first such scheme, for creating bus zone add-ons to rail travel, was launched in autumn 2002 as 'PlusBus'. Ministers have supported the initiative, having originally launched the Journey Solutions group.

This research project aimed to provide answers to a number of questions relating to the launch of 'PlusBus' in autumn 2002 to assist its phased national rollout. The research project looked particularly at the customer experience of using the scheme, the marketing materials and the awareness of integrated ticketing.

MR07 - Incorporating cost, reliability and other travel factors into journey planning

The aim of this project is to better understand what travellers would like from the next generation of journey planners.

  • The first work package will include a logical framework for representing travel factors and decision rules in an idealised journey planner.

Work package 1 (Adobe Acrobat - 229kb)

  • The second work package aims to gain a clearer indication from the public about the weightings of various travel factors.

Work package 2 (Adobe Acrobat - 634kb)

  • The third work package will mock up representations for priority travel factors, which will then be tested on the public.

Work package 3 (Adobe Acrobat - 396kb)
