It assesses the implementation and dissemination of Real Time Information (RTI) on buses, at stops and other locations and on other modes of transport at end-2005. It looks at the likely implementation and dissemination of future RTI systems by end-2006 and end-2007. It looks at the major issues which arose during implementations which had a major impact on timeliness, cost or functional delivery.

Light Rail and Trams in England: Use of Real Time Information

Since 2002, Transport Direct has, through the Real Time Information Group, (RTIG) sponsored an annual survey into the developing state of RTI on buses. These have been well received by local authorities, operators and the supply industry alike. Because of this, and the increasing need for systems to be available multi-modally and interoperable, DfT desired to undertake a parallel survey among LRT operations.

Bus real-time information business case research (UG423I)

Local authorities, bus operators, the Department, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Scottish Executive are developing a national strategy for providing Real-Time Information systems (RTI) on bus services in Great Britain. Delivery at local level will be through partnerships between local authorities and bus operators. Part of the strategy is to develop a business model that can be used to help bus operators and local authorities build a business case for their investment. This research sought to provide data to assist in the development of example business cases; e.g. urban, inter-urban and rural routes/corridors.
