Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB)
The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is part of the Department for Transport and is responsible for the investigation of civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents within the UK. The fundamental purpose of the AAIB is to improve aviation safety by determining the causes of air accidents and serious incidents and making safety recommendations intended to prevent recurrence. It is not to apportion blame or liability.
Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB)
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) examines and investigates all types of marine accidents to or onboard UK ships worldwide, and other ships in UK territorial waters. The fundamental purpose of MAIB accident investigations is to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident with a view to preserve life and avoid accidents in the future, not to apportion blame or liability.
Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB)
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is the independent railway accident investigation organisation for the UK. It investigates railway accidents and incidents on the UK’s railways to improve safety and to prevent further accidents from occurring.
