Riding a bike is an exciting way to travel and a great for beating the traffic, but the number of accidents involving motorcyclists should make every rider stop and think. In 2006:
• 379 motorcyclists were killed
• 2103 were seriously injured in road accidents on non-built up roads. Accidents involving motorcyclists are still out of all proportion to the number of bikes on UK roads. Just think: the total number of motorcyclists killed on all roads in the UK accounts for 19 per cent of all road-user deaths, even though motorcyclists make up only 1 per cent of total vehicle traffic.
