TEMPRO
Introduction to TEMPRO
TEMPRO, the Trip End Model Presentation Program, is designed to allow detailed analysis of pre-processed trip-end, journey mileage, car ownership and population/workforce planning data from the National Trip End Model (NTEM) and present this either on screen or to file/printer for distribution via hardcopy. The pre-processed data is itself the output from a series of models developed and run by the TASM division of DfT. TEMPRO can also be used to provide summaries of traffic growth using data from the National Transport Model (NTM).
TEMPRO has been in existence for several years and initially dealt with motor vehicles only. The current version is multi-modal, providing data on trips on foot, by bicycle, motor vehicle (both as a driver and passenger) by rail and by bus. Users should note, however, that TEMPRO trip ends by mode are based on average rates over a wide area and do not necessarily take into account the accessibility of each zone by each transport mode.
TEMPRO users are advised to refer to the guidance in WebTAG Unit 3.15.2, Use of TEMPRO data in order to understand the different ways that TEMPRO can be used.
Analysis of the data can be any combination of:
- Geographical area (down to a "zonal" level of resolution, with each Local Authority area divided into several zones)
- Transport mode
- Time of day of travel
- Purpose of journey
- Years of interest (from 2001 to 2041)
- Type of analysis (trips in terms of Producing/Attracting, Origin/Destination or Car Ownership)
Results are presented either in terms of growth over the selected period or in terms of the raw trip-end data.
The model also allows the underlying planning data used in generating the pre-processed data to be viewed and alternative planning assumptions to be entered to see what impact these would have on trip-end data.
The system has a full context-sensitive help system built into it.
The system requirements for TEMPRO 6.2 and its data are as follows:
- PC with Pentium 400 or higher
- 96 Mbytes of RAM or higher
- (Version 5) MS Windows 9x or NT or 2000 or XP or Vista
- (Version 6) MS Windows Server 2003 or Server 2008 or XP or Vista or Windows 7
- 500 Mbytes of disk space (if all regions of data are to be used).
The TEMPRO 6.2 software can be downloaded from this site, as can the NTEM datasets. The data is divided up by Government Region, Scotland and Wales and the NTEM data sets can be downloaded and used as required - users need only download those regions they wish to use. TASM will be updating these data sets from time to time and will post the latest version of each regional data file on the site. NTEM datasets are released IN DRAFT for at least three months before becoming definitive. Registered users will be contacted by email to tell them when the software or data are updated or when the status of the dataset changes from IN DRAFT to definitive. Users may download and use the program and data free of charge but the ownership and intellectual property rights to TEMPRO software and the NTEM datasets rests with the Secretary of State of the DfT.
