Summary
This publication presents information on motor vehicles in Great Britain that were licensed on the 30th September 2011 (the end of quarter 3), or were registered for the first time during quarter 3 (July to September 2011). The statistics are derived from data held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), which administers vehicle registration and licensing records in Great Britain.

Key points
- There were 34.5 million vehicles licensed for use on the roads in Great Britain on the 30th September 2011. Of these vehicles, 28.6 million were cars. This all vehicle figure represents an increase of 0.5 per cent on the quarter 3 2010 figure.
- A total of 640.1 thousand vehicles were registered for the first time in Great Britain during quarter 3 2011. This represents a 6.2 per cent increase in the number of first registrations from quarter 3 2010. It is the first quarterly year-on-year increase since the Vehicle Scrappage Scheme ended.
- During quarter 3 2011 a total of 516 new ultra-low emission vehicles were registered for the first time. This is a 29 per cent increase on the quarter 3 2010 figure.
