Key points
- Provisionally, average speeds during the weekday morning peak on locally managed ‘A’ roads in England were faster in April (3 per cent) and June (1 per cent), but slower in May (1.4 per cent) 2011 than in 2010.
- These changes follow a 3 month period where speeds were increasing. However the average speed across the last 12 months as a whole, 25.1 mph, was still 0.6 per cent below the peak observed at the end of 2009.
- Nonetheless, recent speeds remain above the levels seen in 2007 and 2008.
