The Transport Statistics Users Group brings together academics, local and national public bodies, businesses and individuals who use transport statistics, providing a forum for discussion and sharing information and ideas.

Central and Local (Government) Information Partnership (CLIP)

CLIP Transport Statistics (CLIP-TS) is a sub-group of the Central and Local (Government) Information Partnership (CLIP), the main forum for discussion between central and local government on statistical and data matters.

Standing Committee on Road Accident Statistics

The Standing Committee on Road Accident Statistics (SCRAS) was set up in 1977 to oversee the STATS19 process for road accident data collection.

Maritime Statistics Advisory Group (MSAG)

The Maritime Statistics Advisory Group is chaired by the Department for Transport and includes members from Government, the maritime industry and the academic and consuiltancy sector with experience of using and providing data for official maritime statistics, and with practical experience of the sector itself.

The Transport Statistics User Group

The Transport Statistics Users Group (TSUG) is a UK body which aims to:

Identify problems in the provision and understanding of transport statistics and to discuss solutions with the responsible authorities.

Provide a forum for the exchange of views and information between users and providers.

Encourage the use of transport statistics through greater publicity.

Facilitate a network for sharing ideas, information and expertise.

The group holds regular seminars on topical subjects connected with the provision and/or use of transport statistics.

A newsletter is sent to all members about four times a year. Corporate membership of the Group is £50, personal membership £22.50, and student membership £10.

Central and Local (Government) Information Partnership (CLIP)

CLIP Transport Statistics (CLIP-TS) is a sub-group of the Central and Local (Government) Information Partnership (CLIP), the main forum for discussion between central and local government on statistical matters.
Its formal terms of reference are:

To act as a conduit for wider dissemination of transport statistics which are of particular interest to Local Authorities;

To discuss transport statistics of interest to either side that are not dealt with by other topic specific groups. In particular:

Monitoring of transport and related plans;

Sub-national statistics (including neighbourhood statistics);

To identify gaps in coverage and investigate methods of filling these;

To investigate methods of using local authority data to satisfy local, regional and national needs.

The membership of CLIP-TS includes representatives from the Local Government Association, Association of London Government, Passenger Transport Authorities, Shire Counties, Transport for London and the Department for Transport.

Standing Committee on Road Accident Statistics

The Standing Committee on Road Accident Statistics (SCRAS) was set up in 1977 to oversee the new STATS19 process for road accident data collection. It was given the following terms of reference:

To consider problems arising in the collection of data on road accidents and make recommendations.

To disseminate information on techniques and procedures developed in connection with the system of accident reporting.

To consider any amendments to the system that may be required and make recommendations at the time of the quinquennial review.

SCRAS has continued to steer the process of accident data collection since then -particularly dealing with the quinquennial reviews of the survey.
The membership of the committee is drawn from a wide range of bodies and includes representatives of central government, local government and the police. The committee is chaired by DfT. A full list of members and the bodies they represent is given in the SCRAS newsletters.

Maritime Statistics Advisory Group

The Maritime Statistics Advisory Group is chaired by the Department for Transport and includes members from Government, the maritime industry and the academic and consultancy sector with experience of using and providing data for official maritime statistics, and with practical experience of the sector itself.
Its terms of reference are:

To discuss and advise the Department on the possible data sources and methods which could be used to fill information gaps identified through the National Statistics Quality Review of Maritime Statistics, taking account of the value added as well as the costs for data suppliers and the Department, and commercial confidentiality considerations.

To provide a focal point for the reporting of progress in response to the recommendations of the Quality Review generally.

To provide an informal sounding board for the Department’s plans for developing Maritime Statistics.

The founder members (based on membership of Project Board of the 2007 Maritime Statistics National Quality Review) are shown below. Others are invited to participate according to the topics under discussion.
