Economics and social research, including transport modelling & appraisal [04 November 2008]

This research mainly supports cross-Department work on modelling, appraisal and evaluation. One of the aims is to improve traffic modelling and economic advice on roads and traffic issues, and the Department's advice on appraisal methods for transport generally (not limited to advice on trunk roads). It includes application and development of NATA (the "New Approach to Appraisal" issued in 1998), and modelling for the MultiModal Corridor studies (GOMMMS). The sub-programme covers social research and evaluation, and includes behavioural and attitude issues in transport.
