Objectives

The objective of this project is to trial the use of audible announcements on one bus route and to assess whether benefits are achieved.

Description

The project will test an audible and visual system, fitted to all vehicles on one specific route, to inform passengers of vehicle location and stopping points. It will establish passenger reactions to the system using before and after surveys, and identify whether there have been any changes in bus usage and patronage.

Summary of results

  1. The project showed that there was an increase in patronage without any detrimental effects to passengers.

Departmental Assessment Status: Project completed prior to the implementation of the Departmental publications scheme.
