Project: Car Ownership Modelling in NRTF 2000

Reference: H102C

Last update: 12/11/2003 14:09:49

Objectives

This project is validating the car ownership model against more recent data, developing a new way of applying the model at a detailed geographical level, and will build in further improvements. Once this is completed, new software will allow the model to be applied to smaller areas, improving the data available for the National Road Traffic Forecasting framework.

Description

This work is developing the car ownership model used in the National Road Traffic Forecasts (NRTF) 1997, to form part of a more detailed and policy-sensitive forecasting system. Earlier work prior to this project modified the existing model to take into account the impact on car ownership of changes in the costs of owning and using a car. This project is validating the model against more recent data, developing a new way of applying the model at a detailed geographical level, and will build in further improvements. Once this is completed, new software will allow the model to be applied to smaller areas, improving the data available for the National Road Traffic Forecasting framework.
