This is the "After" survey stage of a comprehensive study of the effects of the M60 Manchester motorway. It will identify traffic effects induced by the new motorway network.
This group of projects will identify the induced traffic resulting from the completion of the M60 Motorway around Manchester. The study commenced in 1997 with a feasibility study in which suitable methods were developed and tested.
It includes: the detailed planning of the surveys (H048C); the collection of the 'Before' survey results (H048A); the collection of the 'After' survey results (H048B); and the building of a complex traffic model that represents the induced traffic effects that have been identified (H048D).
The planning study for the 'Before' surveys (H048C) was completed in March 2000, and has produced a cost-effective plan for carrying out these surveys. A requirement was identified for roadside interviews on 70 sites, split between two screenlines and the estimates of the costs of carrying out these surveys were provided. On the basis of that study, a programme of 'Before' surveys has commenced (H048A) and is due for completion in autumn 2000. It includes public transport surveys, travel time surveys and a programme of automatic traffic counts.
