Examine trade-offs between CO2, NOx and contrails/cirrus.
Refine chemical and climate models of the atmosphere for study of aviation impacts.
Examine impacts of emissions from subsonic and supersonic aircraft on the atmosphere.
Update radiative forcing estimates from IPCC 'Aviation and the Global Atmosphere' Report (1999).
Emissions from subsonic jet aircraft flying at cruising altitudes of approximately 8-13 km effect atmospheric composition at altitudes where the climate is sensitive to changes in greenhouse compounds. In addition, changes in in ozone levels in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere could affect the UV radiation penetrating to the lower troposphere through changes in the ozone column densities.
