The project objectives are to:
* attend the EEVC and IHRA Steering Committee meetings; and
* attend specific international meetings or events as requested by VSE.
The Department has found participation in the Steering Committees for the European Enhanced Vehicle Committee (EEVC) and the International Harmonised Research Activities Committee (IHRA) beneficial in improving safety. It enables, through collaboration with other countries, greater efficiency in research output for a given level of funding. It also offers the benefit of allowing the results of UK research to be implemented into EC directives and UNECE regulations. Participating in EEVC/IHRA committees can help achieve UK-DETR objectives on Road Safety by better/joined up working and ownership with other Member States/Governments.
The role of these Steering Committees is to ensure that the research undertaken is both scientifically sound and appropriate and is relevant to the needs of all participating countries and the European Community. It is for these reasons that both a senior researcher and a representative of the national regulatory authority are present on the Steering Committee.
This is a call off contract for scientific support to attend these committees and any other international meetings as seen necessary by the department.
