In 2007 the Department began a project to deliver a new set of freight matrices. The project was let to WSP Group who have designed and built a new freight model to estimate the new matrices.
The Department is now seeking to arrange a training contract to enable DfT staff to become competent in using and understanding the model.
The project outputs will be:
Preparation of detailed technical notes to capture the main aspects of the modelling approach.
Ensuring that the model is set up and working correctly on the Department's system.
One on one training time for one member of DfT staff. To aid this aspect of learning we require some specific training examples which will check a thorough understanding has been gained.
By the end of this training the participant should:
o Understand the purpose of the model
o Comprehensively understand the methodological approach
o Comprehensively understand the structure of the model
o Understand the main input sources and how these data feed into the model
o Be able to edit inputs and assumptions
o Be able to undertake runs of the model
o Be able to interpret the output files & set up new output formats
o Understand the main benefits and limitations of the model
