Project: VOSA Headlamp AIM

Reference: S0716/V6

Last update: 18/12/2008 11:07:09

Objectives

The purpose of this project is to:

. Investigate concerns about the accuracy and consistency of the current VOSA annual headlamp aim test.
. Identify the causes of the high, and increasing, fail rate for headlamp aim.
. Investigate the suitability of the current equipment and test method for modern complex headlamp designs.
. Validate the 2004 Headlamp Aim Report

Description

Early in 2006 a key recommendation of the 2004 headlamp report was implemented by the replacement of the existing headlamp aim equipment with the current LET PLA 20 machine. Despite the introduction of robust and accurate new test equipment the failure rate continued to remain high. Complaints were received from Operators about the repeatability of the results from the new equipment and VOSA agreed to carry out a further comprehensive study into the factors that contribute to the inconsistency of results.
