Objectives

The project aim is to develop the Vehicle Inspectorate Accident Database, with the following objectives:
. Continue to develop the database in line with stakeholder requirements.
. Continue with the work to incorporate police defect reporting into the project
. Collect and input vehicle defect data into the database
. Maintain the good working relationship with VOSA, police, DfT and others
. Undertake analysis of the data to identify where vehicle defects may have an influence on road safety, and to understand better their specific role in the accidents.

Description

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), (formerly the Vehicle Inspectorate and Traffic Area Network) is responsible for the Accident Defects and Recall programme which operates to an agreed code, against which vehicle defects are assessed in order to determine if any remedial action is required. Information from this programme is used to guide research into vehicle safety and to provide data for vehicle defect recalls.
