To carry out the LASER 3.0 model runs to be incorporated into the EPSRC SOLUTIONS project.
The EPSRC SOLUTIONS project is concerned with the overarching question of how far, and by what means, can towns and cities be planned so they are socially inclusive, environmentally sustainable and economically efficient.
The focus of the SOLUTIONS project is on outer areas that are experiencing, or likely to experience, growth It involves a number of in-depth case studies which will test the effectiveness of alternative designs, developments and transport strategies.
It is expected to deliver a set of recommendations for national and local policy makers and private and public sector agents for achieving sustainable urban environments.
The LASER model is a land use and transport model covering London and the south east.
This research will enable the EPSRC SOLUTIONS study, which is led by Cambridge University, to make use of the Department's LASER model. It will also enable the Department and ODPM (who have contributed to this research)to play an active part within the SOLUTIONS project. The Department will have full access to the outputs.
