Objectives

To identify, examine and evaluate the range & format of travel training schemes across England :-

. identifying the schemes, and examining which areas and social groups are particularly using the schemes

. identifying who is getting the travel training and who is funding the schemes

. evaluating the effectiveness of the schemes

. identifying any barriers which may be hindering the schemes' effectiveness, and suggesting ways in which these barriers could be overcome.

Description

To improve the accessibility of public transport, promote mobility, and reduce social exclusion by:
- Improving DfT's understanding of the range & effectiveness of travel training schemes.
- Identifying ways to improve the schemes' effectiveness.

It will further DfT's (and OGDs') undertanding of the range & effectiveness of these schemes. This will enable DfT (and OGDs) to consider its role in promoting awareness of and take up of such schemes and possible future policy developments. A number of policy areas within DfT will benefit e.g. disability, young people's travel, personal security.
