To take forward the issues arising from the DfT research and the "Safety in Numbers" Conference, and furher explore the particular difficult issues identified through the research and at the Conference.
The provision of guidance on and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the whole range of staffing options used to promote security on the whole journey on public transport by means of:
1. Issue guidance on best practice to operators.
2. Convene round table discussion to discuss two particular areas of concern viz; dealing with rowdy and/or drunk people, and using visibility and uniforms to reassure passengers and deter offenders, and issue report on the key findings with recommendations.
3. Undertake a scoping exercise to assess which case studies identified in the initial research could be evaluated.
4. Set up a web link on DfT website to identify funding opportunities.
