The objective of this project is to initiate, fulfill and complete work items that will result in the NPACS Programme delivering agreed test and rating protocols for i) Usability/Misuse; ii) Frontal; iii) Side; and iv) a harmonised NPACS Assessment and Rating Protocol by the end of calendar year 2005.
For the avoidance of doubt, these work items are in addition to those already detailed under the current research project S00225/ VF.
NPACS stems from a UK initiative, which we are currently undertaking with a consortium of partners from National Governments within Europe and the European Commission. The Department's contribution to the overall programme has been focussed on providing the scientific research to establish appropriate test methods for the assessment of usability and misuse and dynamic crash test performance. We have used trends from our field accident databases as a check on their relevance. This evidence has been used to allow informed decisions to be made by the consortia.
Our current project, with TRL Ltd, is running to time and budget and due to complete at the end of February 2006. [S0225/VF]. The overall test programme timing has slipped by two months, due to problems with scheduling of sled tests and delayed repairs to test dummies. The UK wishes to complete the outstanding tasks to the original schedule, to avoid a 6 month delay to the programme.
