Project: LANDUSE/TRANSPORT INTERACTION MODELLING PART 1 - BALANCING AREAS FROM 2001 CENSUS

Reference: H139A

Last update: 14/08/2013 09:53:48

Objectives

If successful the project will deliver
a report on changes in commuting patterns over time
a set of "balancing areas" representing large-scale self-contained labour markets (needed for the Department's next set of travel demand forecasts)
a geograpical structure of "functional regions" for use by subsequent research

Description

This is a small initial project to look at evidence from the 2001 Census on changes in the pattern of commuting journeys over time. A greater understanding of relationships between land use and transport has been identified as a key to forecasting and managing the demand for travel.
