Objectives

The aim of this project is to better understand what people would like from the next generation of journey planners. It will also help produce guidance for ongoing enhancements to the journey planning function of the Transport Direct Portal.

Description

The first live version of Transport Direct will be launched in 2004. There will be many enhancements and new developments added to Transport Direct later in 2004 and through 2005. This is part of the latest phase of the Market Research programme that will inform these developments, to ensure we are delivering the service that the public wants.

Summary of results

  1. The project came up with a number of innovative findings that have had a strong impact on the Transport Direct development team. In particular rather than think of users as each wanting certain sorts of information we are now clear that there are three categories of user each of which comes with a different mind set to a travel information portal. These three types were identified in the literature review as one of active, passive or constrained. The fieldwork confirmed what sort of people adopted which style in which circumstances.
