Objectives

The department has agreed to work with partners from industry, local authorities and equipment suppliers to run an accessible coach trial on the London/Heathrow/Bath route. The contract will cover additional costs incurred by National Express for wheelchair accessible service.

Description

This project will deliver information on all aspects of operating accessible coaches, infrastructure modifications, coach driver training and monitoring of the accessible coach service.

Summary of results

  1. This research provided for a proportion of the additional costs associated with making a high floor inter-urban coach wheelchair accessible in advance of the regulatoroy requirement which was introduce on 1 January 2005.
    The project delivered the planned results.
