Project: Automatic Remote Control to Reduce Vehicle Emissions

Reference: S361C/VB

Last update: 23/01/2004 15:24:52

Objectives

The project will report on the potential value, feasibility and cost-effectiveness of emissions reductions which might be achieved:
* through vehicles in urban driving conditions adopting engine control strategies to suit prevailing atmospheric conditions in response to external signals; and
* through remote interrogation of OBD systems to detect unrepaired emissions faults.

Description

This project reported on the potential value, feasibility and cost-effectiveness of emissions reductions through vehicles in urban driving conditions adopting engine control strategies to suit atmospheric conditions in response to external signals. Additionally, reductions that might be brought about by remote interrogation of OBD systems to detect unrepaired emissions faults were considered. On the basis of this work phase II will not proceed.
