Objectives

This project sets out to examine body rattle sources in a wide range of commercial vehicles and to develop a cost-assessed Guide to Best Practice to aid design and durability.

Description

The original project investigated sources of body rattle noise from a wide range of commercial vehicles. This work is now completed and the final report published.

The results, and final report, were presented to representatives of the commercial vehicle industry who were generally supportive of the work. Representatives of the industry have agreed to assist the Department take this work forward. They will assist in the drafting of a "Guide to Best Practice" for the design, construction, and maintenance of heavy goods vehicles to minimise as far as possible body rattle.

The guide will be produced by a working group including the trade associations representing the vehicle manufacturers, vehicle body builders, and operators.
