Method of further investigation into the rail accidents at Potters Bar and Grayrigg

Statement by:
Rt Hon Geoff Hoon MP
Date delivered:
19 November 2008

The Secretary of State for Transport (Mr Geoff Hoon): As foreshadowed by my statement of 23 October, the Department for Transport has today written to parties affected by the Potters Bar and Grayrigg derailments to seek their views on the most appropriate way forward, following the adjournment of the Potters Bar inquest in 2007.  A copy of the letter has been placed in the House library. Letters have been sent to organisations and individuals (or their representatives) who were affected by either accident and with whom the Department for Transport has previously had contact. I am also interested in the views of others directly involved in either accident, and a copy of the letter has been published on my Department's website so that they may have an opportunity to respond.

End of statement

A copy of the letter can be found on the right of this page in the 'downloads' column.

Anyone directly involved in either incident who wishes to provide the Secretary of State with their views on the questions posed in his letter are invited to write to The Secretary of State for Transport, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR or email geoff.hoon@dft.gsi.gov.uk by 31 December 2008.
