Paddington train crash

Statement by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott

" I am naturally shocked by the news of this morning's tragic train crash near Paddington Station. My thoughts are with  the families and friends of those killed and injured. I extend my heartfelt condolences to all concerned.

"Although it is too early at this stage to speculate about causes, investigators from the Railway Inspectorate are at the scene of the accident. They will provide me with an urgent report.

"I would also like to praise the swift efforts of all the emergency services who have responded with their customary speed and efficiency."
