Grants for walking buses
The Secretary of State for Transport, Douglas Alexander, launched the grant scheme on 22 November 2006. The purpose of the scheme is to provide support to schools that have made a commitment to reducing car use and increasing walking for journeys to school. The closing date for applications was 31 January 2007 and details of the successful schools were published on 26 March 2007. More than 3,000 primary schools in England (more than one in six) will receive grants to help them set up and sustain a 'walking bus' or other walking initiative.Walking Buses grant allocations
