Worcester - Choose how you move

The 5 year project aims to demonstrate the effect a sustained package of 'Smarter Choice' measures can have when coupled with infrastructure improvements. Darlington, Peterborough and Worcester were selected from more than 50 local authorities in England who expressed an interest in becoming 'showcase' demonstration towns. The 3 towns will share £10m of revenue funding during the project with building and improvement works funded LTP) capital funding.

Travel Behaviour Research

In autumn 2004 the travel behaviour of more than 12,000 people across the 3 towns was surveyed, and more than 1,200 people were interviewed indepth. The results will form the baseline data for monitoring the project and also provided a fascinating insight into peoples regular travel behaviour. Smaller interim surveys will be carried out to chart progress against milestones, and another large survey is planned in 2009 to measure the success of each project.

Newsletters

From time to time the towns will be producing leaflets or newsletters aimed at local residents and businesses. These publications will highlight the work done to date and showcase forthcoming projects and events.

National Conference

Key to the success of the project is the sharing of good practice and lessons learnt with other local authorities. Each town is taking it in turn to host a national conference, the first of which was held in Darlington in March 2005.

Peterborough are hosting the 2006 event and you can find out more details at www.landorconferences.co.uk - Worcester are the host City in 2007.
