Introduction
This article summarises people's attitudes to car use. Questions were included in the Office for National Statistics' Omnibus Survey in August 2005 on behalf of the Department for Transport. The questions were designed to explore the following issues:
- levels of car ownership and use and the factors that might impact on car use;
- the extent of driving licence holding and reasons why some people do not learn to drive;
- the importance of transport issues in deciding where to live;
- residential parking behaviour and experience of parking tickets;
