Public Transport Statistics Bulletin: Great Britain 2007 Edition Supplement - The key points are as follows:
- Local bus receipts per passenger boarding increased by 4 per cent in real terms in Great Britain to 84 pence per boarding in 2006/07.
- Concessionary fare reimbursement to bus operators rose to £914 million in Great Britain in 2006/07, up to 41 per cent in real terms since 2005/06. This followed the introduction of free fares for older and disabled people in England and the introduction of a national scheme in Scotland.
- England and Scotland saw increases in concessionary fare reimbursement, of 46 and 35 per cent respectively. Wales concessionary fare reimbursement stayed broadly stable. Outside London, the increase in England was 65 per cent.
- Local bus operations in Great Britain cost £1.41 per kilometre or 76 pence per passenger boarding in 2006/07.
- Overall, the Mystery Traveller Assessors rated bus journeys highly, with overall satisfaction scoring 77 points out of 100.
- The highest score for overall satisfaction was achieved in Tyne and Wear, at 85 points out of 100.
- People aged 17 to 20 made the most bus trip stages per person per year. In every age group, females made more bus trip stages than males.
- Men aged 60+ in England (excluding London) travelled 31 per cent further by local bus in 2006/07 than in 2005/06, following the introduction of free concessionary fares in England. Women aged 60+ travelled 13 per cent further in 2006/07.
