This report, commissioned by DfT from MDS Transmodal, provides long-term forecasts of freight traffic and an assessment of the impacts of additional container port capacity for the transhipment market, it updates two studies published on this website on 22 May 2006 (see Related Links).

UK port demand forecast updates - terms of reference
The Department has appointed MDS Transmodal to update the Port Traffic Forecasts and Transshipment Studies, published in May 2006, in accordance with these terms of reference. The updates will be published in due course.

Technical audit of the transhipment study - terms of reference
The Department has appointed Imperial College to undertake a technical audit of the MDS transmodal container port transhipment study.
