Report on Roads Policing Operation V79. This is a joint report between DfT, Defra and ACPO and gives details of a national police check on compliance with driver and vehicle requirements. Police forces throughout the UK undertook a national police compliance check on motoring requirements for both drivers and vehicles on 31 March 2006. This was organised by the Association of Chief Police Officers on behalf of police service. It involved the random stopping of nearly 6,000 vehicles (cars, motorcycles and light goods vehicles) and the police checked for compliance on driver licensing, vehicle registration, road tax, insurance and MOT. In addition, the police checked for stolen vehicles, those being driven with a SORN in force, and illegal number plates. The operation was supported by DfT and by DEFRA as the police also undertook checks on compliance with live animal transportation regulations at the same time.
