Increase in fee maxima for MOT tests
The Department for Transport launched a consultation process on 17th July 2006 about proposals to increase the maximum amounts that could be charged for each class of MOT test.
Following a review of the comments that were received the proposed new fee maxima, as consulted upon in July, have now been cleared by Ministers and put forward for Parliamentary approval. These new fee limits are due to take effect from Tuesday 7th November 2006.
New fees posters will be on display in MOT Test Stations setting out the fee maxima and also the new maximum rates and procedures for MOT retests following an initial failure - these came into effect on 11th September.
A table is enclosed setting out the new fee maximum for each test class. The other table summarises the comments that were received specifically on increasing test fee maximums and gives the DfT's responses to the points raised.
Copies of the full responses to the consultation will be lodged later in the DfT Library at Ashdown House, Victoria Street and will be available for inspection by prior appointment.
