In June 2007 the Department for Transport commissioned Halcrow / TRL to evaluate three parts of the Traffic Management Act 2004.

This evaluation will examine the impacts of Parts 2, 3 and 4 of the Act.

Part 2: Network Management by local traffic authorities
Part 3: Permit Schemes
Part 4: Street works

The main aims of this contract are:

  • to determine the effectiveness of the new legislation
  • to learn more about causes of congestion related to the Act and
  • to see whether improvements might be made to the new regimes.

The results of the study will inform policy development and where appropriate, allow the Department to issue guidance to local traffic authorities on improved ways to manage their road networks.

More information will follow in 2008
