Cleaner Vehicles Task Force
The Cleaner Vehicles Task Force was set up by the UK Government in November 1997 to bring together Government and others with an interest to address measures to encourage people to build, buy and use vehicles which are:
- more fuel-efficient;
- less polluting;
- quieter, and
- less resource intensive.
The Task Force also set out to explore ways of improving the environmental performance of existing vehicles.
The Task Force has now completed it's work and published it's final report, 'The Way Forward'. The Government's response has now been published (1 December 2000).
- Final Update report of the Cleaner Vehicles Task Force - a final report updating the recommendations outlined in the Government Response to the final report of the Cleaner Vehicles Task Force
- Driving the Agenda - the first report of the Cleaner Vehicles Task Force proposes practical measures which will help to protect the environment, whilst enabling us to continue to enjoy the benefits of road transport and car ownership.*
- The Impacts of Road Vehicles in Use - Air Quality, Climate Change and Noise Pollution - is a fuller report about the environmental impacts of vehicle use. It gives information on not only actual and predicted emissions but also on present and proposed future emissions standards, fuel consumption trends and the contribution to overall emissions of transport as compared to other sources.*
- Alternative Fuels Group an assessment of the relative emissions performance of alternative and conventional fuels. The report investigates the potential environmental benefits associated with the use of alternative road fuels and technologies, the change in capital and operational costs, the required new infrastructure and the non-fiscal barriers which may affect market introduction.
- Technical Solutions for Reducing Emissions from In-use Vehicles the report of the Technology and Testing Sub Group includes a cost benefit analysis of technical options available and their possible impact on air quality, along with a paper on the effect of emissions on air quality.
- The Environmental Impacts of Motor Manufacturing and Disposal of End of Life Vehicles - the report examines how the production of vehicles affects the environment and looks at the measures being taken to limit and reduce these impacts by both Government and industry, through regulation and manufacturers' own efforts.
- The Way Forward - the final report of the Cleaner Vehicles Task Force. This report represents the culmination of the work of the Task Force and includes an action plan setting out the action required by both industry and government to ensure that the recommendations of the Task Force can be put into practice.*
- Review of Work on Whole-Life Environmental Impacts of Vehicles - Executive Summary.
