Thames Gateway transport project
|
|
The Thames Gateway is recognised as Europe's largest regeneration project, covering a 40 mile stretch along both the north and south corridors of the River Thames. It is expected that by 2016 there will be an additional 120,000 homes and an additional 180,000 jobs in the Gateway area. The Government understands that transport is an essential part of Growth and Regeneration in the Gateway. Along with other public sectors partners such as Transport for London, the Highways Agency and local authorities, DfT has made significant financial commitments that are now being translated to delivery 'on-the-ground'. The transport infrastructure commitments for Thames Gateway include major investments in the Docklands Light Railway, Fastrack, CTRL Domestic Services, A2 enhancements and the 2nd Crossing at Swale. This document summarises the transport schemes which are planned and some which are already underway that will help support growth in the Thames Gateway area. We will refresh the scheme details on a regular basis to allow the public and stakeholders alike to see the significant public sector commitment to the exciting development of the Thames Gateway. |
