Designation of the Olympic Route Network

The Secretary of State for Transport has made an Order designating the roads that will form the Olympic Route Network (ORN) - a network of roads to be used during the 2012 Games to provide the safe, reliable transport for athletes, technical officials, media and marketing partners between venues and accommodation that is critical to the Games’ success.

The designation Order comes into force on 22 July 2009.

Designation of the ORN gives the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) powers to approve planned road works on the ORN, and to make Traffic Regulation Orders on the ORN roads and designate additional ORN roads subject to consultation and the Secretary of State's consent.

The designation of the ORN follows consideration of the responses received to the consultation carried out on a proposed network of ORN roads between December 2008 and March 2009. The Government's response to the consultation explains the changes that have been made to the proposed ORN in the light of those responses.  It also outlines the ODA's plans, starting in summer 2009, to engage and consult with residents, businesses and others on the design, implementation and operation of the traffic management measures to be applied during the Games.  The maps of the ORN below indicate the routes covered and the intended use of each section (explained in section 8 of the Government response).  For a detailed, and definitive, listing of the roads that have been designated, please refer to the designation Order itself.

The ODA have created a page on the London 2012 website to provide further information about their ORN plans and a dedicated email address for enquiries: olympicroutenetwork@london2012.com
