Penistone Line (South and West Yorkshire) Barnsley - Huddersfield. 21 miles. Interurban route that has grown strongly with support from the pioneer Community Rail Partnership (Penistone Line Partnership). The only pilot in a PTE area
Objectives/actions
- Cost effective development of improved frequency
- Innovative signalling to provide extra capacity on single line sections
- Establishment of a Rail Development Company to take forward the further development of this line
- Test local management concepts for line
- Continued development of 'virtual' branch line to Holmfirth and other integration measures including community car club
Progress
A successful reference group meeting has been held with local stakeholders. This is feeding in extra ideas to the project.
There is a client steering group which meets regularly to review plans and progress - much of the initial effort has focused on ensuring stable finances for the partnership.
Designation
The designation process for the line is due to start during June.
