DfT commissioned MVA Consultancy to undertake a research study to improve its rail demand forecasting capability.  The study consisted of four related workstreams: to identify any elements of the existing forecasting framework that can readily be updated, specify a dataset of rail demand and revenue that will form the basis for further detailed econometric analysis, consider the differences that there appear to be between current rail forecasting procedures and those more generally used in the context of multimodal forecasting, and recommend a programme of further work.

Workstream 1 Interim Demand Forecasting (557 kb)

The Department for Transport commissioned MVA Consultancy to undertake Phase 1 of a research study to improve its rail demand forecasting capability. Phase 1 of the study consists of four workstreams (Workstream 1: Identify any elements of the existing forecasting framework (which is essentially based on PDFH) that can readily be updated).

Workstream 2 – Review and Specification of Data Series (1 Mb)

The Department for Transport commissioned MVA Consultancy to undertake Phase 1 of a research study to improve its rail demand forecasting capability. Phase 1 of the study consists of four workstreams (Workstream 2: Prepare a specification of a dataset of rail demand that will be internally consistent and can form the basis of detailed research in Phase 2 of the study).
