Modelling VfM in franchise specification (2 Mb)

This report details the findings of the study 'Modelling VfM in franchise specification' which comissioned by DfT in May 2007. The study focused upon areas such as, review of current and future and practice in franchise specification, consideration of potential issues with replacing existing modelling tools such as MOIRA and review of crowding modelling methodologies. This report was originally published in May 2008.

Rail industry research strategy implementation plan

This Implementation Plan sets out each of the actions that have cascaded from the Rail Industry Research Strategy (RIRS) published in 2007. It focuses on the short-term activities and plans for 2008/09 and covers strategic research, collaboration, and delivery mechanisms. The document covers research objectives, plans and timeframe for enabling actions, and governance and monitoring.

Rail industry research strategy

The main document sets out to review current railway research programmes, establish strategic priorities for future research, help ensure that public sector funding is appropriately directed, encourage the adoption and implementation of research results and assist in collaboration with Europe-wide research. It was developed by representatives of the rail industry, research organisations and DfT. It is supported by an Evidence Pack on current projects and recent Government publications.

Freight User Benefits Study

This research was commissioned by the Strategic Rail Authority. This does not represent Departmental policy and, at present, DfT does not include these benefits in the appraisal of transport schemes.
