Rail freight interchanges
Rail freight interchanges provide for modal shift to rail. Provision is a matter for industry and as such developments are subject to normal planning requirements. The Strategic Rail Authority developed a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange policy to inform developers of interchanges and to contribute to growth and competitiveness of rail freight in the general freight market. The SRA will cease to exist from 2006 and has already relinquished its role in the planning process.
