Review of freight modelling

In September 2001, the Department commissioned a short research study to review the options for modelling and forecasting freight including those used in other countries in order to assess which techniques would be most suited in Great Britain. The review covered road freight and other modes as well as modelling light goods vehicle (LGV) movements. WSP Consultancy was awarded this contract with John Bates Services and John Fearon Consultancy acting as Independent referee. The study was divided into three main work areas summarised as:
